Tattoo Aritst + Technology = Dali Rău

Friends, Interesting Links, Website No Comments »

My brother recently started getting some new tattoos and it got me to thinking that I should get mine re-done and maybe get some new ones. ( I know my girlfriend is cringing at this point. ). If you haven’t seen my tattoos yet, I’m sure there are some pictures in my gallery somewhere of them but in order to save you the browsing time - I like tribals. I like the clean, artistic design of them. I like how they stay nice and bold, even as the tattoo gets older. And if you know me at all, I do not simply like dragons, I love them. I collect them. Hell, the Tiger calls me the Dragon.

The problem with tribal designs is that they are everywhere and when they are everywhere, it means you get some really crappy ones and some really good ones. After about 3 weeks of scouring the web, I found Dali Rău. This guy is just amazing. And the best part, he’s into computers and technology. Hell, he has his own wordpress 2.5 blog. I mean, c’mon, how cool is that? Most tattoo artists around here are just into bikes and skulls and crap. Here’s a dude who actually knows what XHTML is and is pissed when his site doesn’t validate. ( FYI, my site doesn’t validate, due to some issues with how Wordpress displays the link categories.. ). The only downfall? He lives in Japan. :(

So, me and the Tiger are thinking of planning an excursion for sometime later this year to make the trip to Japan, drink lots of sake, eat lots of sushi and get ourselves some tattoos from the venerable Dali.

If you’re into tattoos at all, check his site out.

Damnit, I did it again.

I screwed up Week 2 of phase 2 again. I got through 3 days and then a combination of work and laziness on the weekend resulted in only 3 of 6 workouts being done. Way too low for me for me to consider a week accomplished.

So, once again, I’m restarting week 2. I completed today with no issues.

In other news, I was able to visit our San Diego campus last week on Friday to meet with our parent company and man oh man. Just take a look at these photos to see how insane the campus is:

What I wouldn’t give to work there and not the office I’m in. It’s not just the campus, it’s all about their corporate policies and such. They really understand what it means to be an enterprise company. Hopefully some of their learnings will come filter down to our management.

  • When I first saw this video clip, it was extremely creepy.  It has almost a human element to it.  I actually felt bad for the thing when it starts slipping on the ice.  As my friend James pointed out - if they’re showing this public footage for something being designed for the military, you gotta wonder what they’re not showing you. • I’m sorry if you’ve posted a comment or a pingback in the past and it wasn’t shown, I never check my spam filters for comments and it turns out it was removing some comments and pingbacks from other sites, so I apologize for that. (0 comments)

Finally, an update.

Alright, I know, it’s been forever since I updated. Almost a full month! There’s been alot that has been going on. So let’s get started.

First off, I’m still on P90X and I’ll post the photos in a second. I’m on Week 2 of phase 2. I should be on week 3 but alot happened last week and I wasn’t able to fit in alot of the workouts, so I’m repeating the week. I’m sorta disappointed because I’ve seem to plateaued a bit. I’m definitely getting stronger each week, but the body fat and the weight is staying about the same. Seeing that, I’ve decided to go back to working out in the mornings and then doing a cardio workout at night. I just need the extra calorie burn in order to drop the res of this weight!

Work is good and I’m in the middle of a bunch of projects. I’ve been talking to our parent company alot and I’m getting to know some of the sysadmins on their teams. That’ll be a bonus, especially if I ever decide to leave DI. We’re working on implementing sudo, network installations, configuration management and bunch of other cool infrastructure items.

As far as running goes, the tiger, I must say, has crushed me again. I just couldn’t keep up with his 3-4 miles a day, especially in the middle of doing P90X. So, my next diabolical plan is to get him onto P90X, then kick his ass. :) Maybe he’ll feel the pain I felt.

I’ve been learning alot of python recently, due to a recent project in creating a jabber bot for our company conference server. While the syntax is easy to get down, I know I’m not doing things in a python-ish way, nor am I probably taking advantage of good design concepts for OO programming. I’ve been trying to read up a bit about it so hopefully my code-fu will be masterful some day.

Week 3 almost done…

P90X, Work No Comments »

So I’ve almost made it to the first recovery week. This week was full of plyo, arms and shoulders and yoga. I failed to do legs and back today due to issues and having to walk the dogs, so I ran 6 miles instead. I’ll do the workout tomorrow. Besides, I’ve got to get some runs in to compete with the Tiger and blow him out of the water this time!

Other then that, not much has been going on. I’ve been watching alot of DVD’s lately, mostly TV series. Right now I’m in the middle of Battlestar Galatica and I’m loving it. I’ve got alot of work stuff I’d like to talk about but nothing solid yet, so not really much of a point to it. We’re looking at some configuration management products, mostly OpsWare and Blade Logic. We’re going to be implementing some DNS architecture, LDAP, syslog, some virtual server stuff ( hopefully on VMWare ESX ) and a bunch of other things. I really need to take some time to write up some tutorials from the notes I’ve gathered.

I’m still studying some of the JFS2 specs but haven’t had much time with the P90X and everything.

Anyways, my fam is coming down soon for Easter and I’ll be busy with them, maybe I’ll have some updates soon. I’ve updated the P90X Log with my last few workouts, so go check it out. 30 day pictures coming soon!

P90X Updates

Ok, so I skipped a few days of updating the site, got a little busy. I rocked it up this week, with my only failure being a missed Kenpo session. I went golfing on Saturday and was sun-burnt and exhausted afterwards and promptly took a nap. So, with the decision of Kenpo vs Yoga, I chose to do Yoga. My reasons behind this being that Yoga, for me, is much harder than Kenpo, provides alot more flexibility and burns calories, while Kenpo is pretty much a cardio workout, which I can get from running.

I’ve updated my P90X log with a bunch more data for this week. Also, I want to congratulate the Tiger on his completed 50 miles! He made it the way through, lost some weight and got more stamina. He crushed me in the challenge, but never fear, for Revenge of Chan is our new challenge with a higher mile rate and I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED AGAIN! Also, check out Mardagan’s P90X blog, he’s making some great progress.

AIX - JFS Recovering a deleted file ( undelete )

Unix, Work 5 Comments »

This is a document I wrote a while back for work that I thought I would release in hopes that some people out there would find it useful.

Preferably, you have a backup of the file system that you can use. If not, the filesystem you are about to try to to recover a file on must meet these requirements:

  • No new files have been created on the filesystem.
  • No files have been extended.
  • The filesystem is able to be unmounted.
  • It is a JFS filesystem, not JFS2

If so, then please, drink a few more beers and continue, but before you do…

BACKUP THE CURRENT FILESYSTEM!

Week 2, officially!

Health, P90X No Comments »

Ok, so I started Week 1, got to Week 2, got deathly ill for a week, took a week off, re-did Week 1 and here I am, starting Week 2 now and not sick ( yet ). I’m way behind everyone else in the program, which sucks, but I’ll get there! I also have to get back on my diet ( bleh ) to drop these pounds and rebuild them back up as nice, lean muscle.
