Eye of the Tiger..

Friends, Health 1 Comment »

That’s what I’ll be having for dinner if the Tiger doesn’t shape up, hurry up and get his nano with his Nike+ kit. I’ve already got a headstart on him! Maybe posting the challenge here so all the world can see his failure will make him hurry up…

That’s right Bond. I just threw the glove.

I am insane…

.. for letting myself get as fat as I am now. 208 pounds people. 208!! I’ve never been over 200 a day in my life and now I’m 208 pounds! This is what relationship comfort will do to you.

So I started up the running again. And the diet. And we’re going to add another thing into the mix - P90X. It’s an extreme workout that a few of my friends have just started. There is no way this temple of a body is going to be over 200 pounds. So beginning today, I will weigh myself every morning and update the blog with my new weight. I’m actually starting the P90X program next Monday, but in the mean time, I’ve setup a Goals page that I was able to link my Nike+ information in. My real goal is to reach the 100 mile milestone! I’ll update the weight on that page as well.

Wish me luck!

I am now officially PADI certified for scuba diving. Completed my four open water dives this weekend. Two of them at Broad Beach at Zuma and the other two at LuLu’s Cove in Catalina. Now to go buy all my scuba equipment.. :)

Running on the beach.

Makes your toes tingle.

But seriously, it’s alot nicer of an environment to run on.  Too bad I can’t use the Nike + Ipod with it.  I’m trying to think of a way to strap the sensor to my ankle or something.

Quick update…

Just a quick update. We’re moved in, my toe has healed ( for the most part ), Saleigh is awesome and the beach is freak’n cold.

Fo’ sho’. Later.

I broke my toe in our soccer game last night. :( It hurts.

Where did the time go?

So yeah, sorry, I almost fell into my habit of not updating enough. So what’s up?

Well, I sold the laptop ( thanks P. ), but now I’m awaiting the release of the Merom chip for the Macbook Pro’s before I snag one. Other then that, I’ve been keeping up on the soccer games. We now play in two leagues and lemme tell you, it’s embarassing when some dude who’s 10 years older than me can run faster. We’ve almost won a game, so we’re constantly getting better.

I’ve been keeping up on the flying. I got my license renewed and I flew out to Catalina. It was a fun trip, although it took a bit to get used to the VOR navigation again. Gotta say that the GPS systems in those planes rock and make everything so much easier. I can see how easy it would be to become totally dependant on it.

In other news, I’ll soon be moving. Jeremy and I will be going down and taking over a co-worker’s house on the beach in Oxnard. When I mean beach, I mean my backyard is the sand and the water. It’ll be quite a new experience. I’m thinking about taking up surfing ( hey, even I can’t be that lazy, the water is like 50 yards away! ). It’s just going to be coooooooold. Surfing would probably be the cheapest hobby I’ve ever taken up. ( Right Mom? ). I’m still golfing and I still suck at it. Talk about a frustrating game.

Any of you wayward cousins of mine who’d like to come visit are more than welcome. I’m still unsure of the dogs on the beach, but we’ll see how they work out there.

I better get back to work. Ciao.

Run, dammit, run!

So those of you who know me know that I’m trying to get into shape.  I started off with dieting and changing my way of eating.  Not just a ‘fad’ diet, but actually changing my lifestyle.  Then I started playing soccer ( mind you, I’m still dieting and I’m still playing soccer ).  But it wasn’t enough.  The soccer games are only once ( and now two ) times a week and we hardly every do any practice.  I needed something more.

So I started to run.  Run, run, run and run some more.

But it gets boring.  I mean, for 30 minutes you are sitting there with nothing but thoughts in your head like ‘Did I start the washing machine before I left?’ or ‘How gay is The Tiger?’.  In any case, after awhile the running, while good for me, was getting really dull.  So I went and bought an iPod Shuffle.  Yes, that’s right, my first Apple product.  I wanted some music while I got my shin splints.  I had yet to open the package ( I was back at work ) and while browsing the Apple sit, customizing what will be my next Apple product ( Hellooooooooo Mac Pro! ), I came upon the iPod Nano and Nike+.  “Hrm”, I said to myself.  “Self, I think I should go get that instead.”  And so I did.

For those of you who don’t know what Nike+ is, it basically takes an iPod Nano, puts a receiver on it and gives you a little sensor that you stick in your shoe.  Then when you run, the sensor sends data back to your iPod, while it’s playing music and all that jazz, and records like a pedometer, basically getting your speed, distance and time and calculating stuff like calories and average pace.  Then when you get home, you can upload it to the Nike+ website where they chart all your runs.  It’s pretty darn spiffy.

I just went and tested and it works like it’s supposed to.  Very simple interface and I didn’t have to calibrate the sensor at all ( at least, it was close enough to the real distance that I didn’t really mind ).  The one thing I did wish it could do would to be to export your run data to some other format so that I can include it on my own website, like here, so that everyone can laugh at how slowly I run.  Some of the other cool things on the Nike+ site include setting goals for yourself in terms of distance, time and speed or calories burned.  You can also challenge other people to different types of races.  All in all, it’s a pretty cool tool and cheap ( if you already have a iPod Nano ) and a huge motivational tune to help get and stay in shape.

Anyways, I’m going to go figure out some way to post my run info on this site in the future and then go off and run some more.  Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

the season so far…

Well, we’ve got two games left to go.  We don’t have any wins ( or ties for that matter ), but everyone has been really enjoying just being out there and getting good exercise.  We had a game last night in which we actually did pretty well.  It was still a loss, but we’re getting better, slowly and surely.  After the season ends we have two weeks of rest, hopefully we’ll also get some other players that are interested although now that people are getting used to the speed, it is more of an issue of getting people playing time.

Nothing much has happened in other news.  Congratulations to Heather ( my cousin ) and her new husband Tom Cushman on their marriage.  It was a fun day, although it was way too hot.   The BBQ the next day was a great idea as well.

At home I’ve been playing SpellForce 2, which is a great game.  I tried to get the Tiger to play it but he’s too much of a wuss to do anything but work and play WoW.  I also have to go get my pilot’s license renewed this weekend, so wish me luck on that!

How to eat healthy

Food, Health 1 Comment »

Sorta.

I’ve created a page on the side bar ( over there –> ) that lists the foods that I will try and purchase in order to eat healthy ( Thanks 23 for the big chunk of it ). I’m trying to drop a few pounds and the first thing to attack is my diet. I started at 185 lbs about 2 weeks ago and I’m down to 180 now, only 25 more to go!
