Now that I’ve got my twitter account updating my facebook status, I hardly go to facebook to update my status. What this does mean, however, is that I need a good Twitter client whatever operating system I am on at the time ( Ubuntu at work, OS X or Ubuntu at home with an occasional Windows system ).
Having just upgraded to the latest Ubuntu after sticking around on Kubuntu Hardy for awhile ( Intrepid was scary ) – I went in search of a decent twitter client.
The first one I picked up was Twitux – it was easy to grab out of the synaptic package repo and installed quite easily. Inserted my credentials and away we go. Overall, it’s not a bad client. It’s a little on the plain side ( when compared to my flashy OS X client ) and it had an annoying bug of always showing my posts with the wrong face. It had taken a liking to Mr. Bond – and everytime I posted, I had to see his ugly mug up there. Replying to other tweets was also a bit weird, I missed having my little looping arrow to signify a reply – instead, you double click the message. It’s not bad but not it’s just not what I’m used to.
I figured there had to be something better. A simple google search brought up this page. After a quick peruse of the contents they’d gathered, I grabbed Spaz. I’m really not a big fan of Adobe Air and I generally stay away from applications that require it but in this case, it seemed that if I wanted to have a nice twitter client, I had no choice. The install was painless enough and after a minute or so, I was up and running.
It’s alot prettier client, it actually pulls in the correct icon for me ( no more ugly oklahoma boy ) and is overall, well, better.
Another recommended client was Twhirl but until I find a problem with Spaz, I don’t think I’ll need to switch.
